The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Producer to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has secured Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Comes After Mixed Feedback

The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last autumn.

Recently, 2K president a key figure updated team members about this decision through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had shown the need for a distinct game identity.

Ismailer noted that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Hires

The news mirrors a comparable move taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the complete content from the president's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative creators we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”

Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was enlightening. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the necessity for a sharper identity.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the criticism to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s poised to deliver on its ambition to our fans.

The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the new Lead of 31st Union. Following a period of conversations, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s management and expertise in the competitive gaming field is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most popular titles in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in greeting him soon. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the evolution of the game in the time to come.

The President

Background of the New Leader

The appointee presently holds the role of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in various development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, before that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Details and Vision

Project Ethos was unveiled in October 2024 alongside a community playtest. Then, the developers described the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting evolution on the genre."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the description explains. "Face the opponents with new abilities, risks, and challenges that evolve every round. Do you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively go big, put it on the line, and pray your squad can achieve the highest spot? The option is up to you."

Project Ethos lacks an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but enthusiasts can anticipate more updates as creation advances.
